One of the ways the Donadoni Academy has thrived throughout the pandemic is by shedding the uncertainty and dread for dreams. Sure, we preach predictability and structure and find certainty in knowing that Dad hit the curb again, Wally chased Tiger again, (the cat that audaciously sauntered into the dog’s kitchen and ate his food), dinner is relentlessly gonna be served at 6 and the smoke detector will go off when I fry bacon, Or sausage. Or anytime I turn the stove on…but that is neither here nor there…
What’s kept us from drowning in despair is dreaming. We are channeling the positive energy of that TikTok Dreams OceanSpray skateboarder guy that just wants to get to work. At family dinner we had one of those moments where the universe lined up calmly enough to see the whole fam engaged in creative, possibly too expensive but let’s just go with it, sensational dreaming and planning and searching for ways to create better spaces and places for themselves.
In our home, we don’t just move the bed closer to the outlet for our iPhone charger or hang some new posters or relocate thousands of stuffed animals. Nope. To hear the conversations about lighting or tv’s or bookcases or move this or move that you would think that they are setting up for a Royal Family wedding…if that is still a thing. Or preparing the dream room like a house version of MTV’s “Pimp My Ride”. Yes. I know there are home makeover shows but that is not the point…I am making connections here. Besides, this is the only place I get to say whatever I want however I want…
Transitioning through life’s phases means incredible uncertainty. Daily. But, one of the ways our Academy is flourishing in the face of grief, loss, fear, chaos, anxiety and nuclear reactivity is dreaming. Daydreaming can be a brutal challenge to the remote learning structured plans of well intentioned schoolteachers trying to teach to the test – but in life, daydreaming, and planning and visioning a positive space is essential. My mom would say, how else would you know where you are going? How would you know what it should look like if you don’t ponder the possibilities. And for the record, she is right- we have to dream, we have to imagine, create, and wonder. Because if you have the faith to keep walking in the rain and feel like you won’t step on a pile of leaves camouflaging a moist smelly dog poop…then you will be able to dream, and find your purpose. Or, even better you will find the easy chair after a long day…
Thanks for Coming!
