When you know where you are going you have a much better chance of getting there. When you want to be there even better so that you may persevere to get there, even if there is a speed bump or detour in your way. However, when you do NOT know where you are going…how will you know if you get there?
See? That is where the Assistant Principal of the Donadoni Academy finds himself today. Or tonight. Where am I ? Great question. I am going places. And Oh, the places I’ll go. I mean you should’ve seen the places I been. Never mind where I’m going.
But the other day I just wanted to see my new home. However, the weather and the clouds in my left eye-the good eye, conspired to create the perfect storm. I had just finished another amazing day of teaching, preaching and maybe even reaching our future leaders when, what to my wondrous eyes did appear? Lots of gray, streaks of silver, some brownish tones, some blacks and blues, and overall lots of blur. I am grateful for gps devices with loud audio. I am hateful of rainy days at dusk.
You have to understand that this particular Mr. Magoo moment was seriously interfering with my desire to walk into the new castle we now own. I grimaced slightly as my tender ribs simmered with fear that I was driving so slowly the speedometer had to display fractions. And who doesn’t love dividing fractions? Problem was, it does not matter if you go fast or slow. (Try this at home and you will see it is true…close your eyes and run. Then close your eyes and walk. Did it make it easier to see by slowing down?)
Good news was that I rolled my window down and heard the sultry Siri voice say turn right. So I started a slow right turn. Painfully slow. So slow, you couldn’t tell if the car was moving or turning or if the driver was simply blind. But I digress, because NOPE! That’s not it.
And I repeated that same drive, er crawl to the next street and paused on the brakes only to realize ONCE AAAAAAGAIN I had NOT reached my sought after street name. (Not a car named Desire?)
When I finally found the right right, I was alright. I peeled my shoulders from the roof of the car, and smirked triumphantly to myself in the rear view mirror I couldn’t really see. It took me 13 minutes to make a 5 minute drive. But I think, that…it is easier to THINK than SEE the street signs or even the road lines when it rains!
BTW: Mom, it’s true that I had trouble seeing the road. And it’s true I struggled to tie my shoe. But, I assure you that I was perfectly legally able to perform the functions of this job. And so, as we prepare for the ultimate HOMECOMING or COMINGHOME Party, let’s remember to universally design our lesson plans for life so that we can all skate through the Roll-A-Thons that may come our way!

Now I know you shouldn’t be driving.
I agree!
