Now I Get It

I was trying to figure out why Wally seemed confused, maybe even anxious or filled with fear, so as we snuggled on the chair I took the time to share a few thoughts with my guy. I left the windows open so that my neighbors could hear my bellowing voice.

“Look. Wally, life ain’t perfect and it’s never gonna be but there’s something you should know…you are a lucky guy. You got a beautiful mom and a fine, bald dad. Because you see…he can’t see that great anyway but we all know that looks don’t matter right? It’s what’s on the inside that counts. Unless you are hungry and then…all bets are off. Because you gotta feed the hunger. I get that. But back to you. You are lucky and blessed twice because you have people in your life that can do 2 things. Literally. And Figuratively. Actually you have 4 humans here but who’s counting? Never mind. See how confusing this can be. And, Wally I want you to know that I am great at the hugs, the belly rubs, and the head bumps. And thank God for mom because she can actually do the other work you need…like drive you to your appointments and fetch your food and water and she can find where you are. All I am good for is a hug I guess. Oh well. Wally- we all have our limitations you know. We just have to accept them. And then we can keep moving. Cuz that’s what ya gotta do. And that is all we know how to do. Oh. We know how to be happy too. That is easy. Just be.

But. I did say but. Wally does know how to get out of the Castle. That is why my neighbors are great. They have to be. Because we live here. Wally requires it. And I need it. And appreciate it. Wally likes to nudge the gate open and wander the Garden of Eden. Oh well. He always comes back. Like the cat. Wait- that’s another song. For another day.

I can only tell ya buddy that I will do what I can. Others will do their part. And you must accept that the people here are all very different. They are not all good at the same things. We keep each other balanced. Like a diet. That I am not on. But should be. Or something like that. Whoa. Did that make sense? Not sure. Me neither buddy. We can never be sure, unless we did it ourselves. Right? But we will figure this out. We always do. That’s why we keep smiling!”

And then Wally tipped his head to the side and replied, “Thanks for Coming!”
